The PEO International STAR Scholarship was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for exceptional high school senior women who wish to attend an accredited post secondary educational institution in the United States or Canada in the next academic year.
The P.E.O. Sisterhood (Philanthropic Educational Organization) is a U.S.-based international women’s organization of about 230,000 members, with a primary focus on providing educational opportunities for female students worldwide.
PEO International organization is where women CELEBRATE the advancement of women; EDUCATE women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College and MOTIVATE women to achieve their highest aspirations.
About the P.E.O. STAR Scholarship (STAR)
This is a non-renewable $2,500 scholarship for graduating high school senior women which must be used in the academic year following graduation or it will be forfeited.
The fund may be paid at the discretion of the recipient, funds directly to the recipient or to the accredited educational institution.
Funds can be used for tuition and fees, or required books and equipment that are usually non-taxable for income tax purposes. Funds can also be used for room and board which are report-able income for tax purposes.
Recipients and their families will decide on the use of funds and they will be responsible for any taxes incurred. Recipients and their families should seek professional tax guidance.
